Mechanical root canal treatment

During root canal treatment, as much of the diseased tissue and bacteria as possible must be removed from the canals. For this work step we use machine-operated, highly flexible file systems rather than handheld instruments.

During the mechanical procedure, the channels are shaped (prepared) in such a way that they narrow conically towards their tip. In this way, even more complicated root canal shapes can be cleaned and filled. At the same time, the particles contained within the canals are removed by the rotating movement of the files.

The advantages of mechanical treatment:

• Thanks to the higher precision and flexibility of the files, more thorough cleaning and shaping of the infected root canals is possible than with other methods. Machine-operated files move reliably through the hairline, curved and branched canals. They therefore help to improve the success rate of root canal treatment.
• Mechanical preparation is also faster, and is usually more comfortable for patients than the procedure using handheld instruments.
